  1. WATCHING AND CHECKING THE PROGRESS OF HOPE CHEST AS IT RUNS
    by Norman Shipp (Idaho)

During a Hope Chest search, you can watch the accumulation of links by the following key strokes (after starting a Hope Chest search and identifying a tab for link accumulation:

Click on the Hope Chest icon

    Click on “Hope Chest”

Click on the “inbox” down arrow

Click on the tab that you are currently using for the link accumulation.

The “Total Count” shows you the number of links that have been found with the links below.

Note that you can click on the “dancing green arrows” to refresh the screen and get a new count and list.

If the count isn't changing, and you can see more green boxes being saved in the search, you may be in a loop.

This needs to be addressed separately.

What I do is to “Pause” the search and look to see if you can see the problem. You may see the duplicating names. Then, in a new window, I “find” the PID of the duplicate name and fix the problem. Most often, I find a grandfather that is his own grandson. That is his son has his own father as a son. Once that link is “cut”, the loop is fixed and you can “resume” the Hope Chest search. If the loop is truly fixed, the Hope Chest search will “back out” of the loop iterations, one at a time, backing out of the search. Then the search will continue.

The advantage of “backing out” of a loop, rather than starting the Hope Chest search anew, is that you may save many hours of time.

  2. Once upon a time when I used Pandora's Box it worked fine and I still have a file from when I used it. Now whenever I do any kind of search and think the data is being collected, I go to open the file and nothing comes up. I'm watching the tutorials again and can't figure out why it doesn't work. Do I need to update the software? I subscribed to the one time fee for $10. Any idea what's up?
